Open Days

What is a Recruitment Open Day?

Our Recruitment ‘Open Days’  help us discover new talent and recruit people who have the right values and skills to make a positive contribution to The SLC Group.

This is the process we use to recruit  staff for all roles across The Group  - be it a new Support Worker or a Regional Operations Director.

On the day you can learn about the company, the requirements of the role you are applying for and allow for you to demonstrate your skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

What does the day involve?

Our Open Days usually last around three and a half hours.

The process is designed to give you an opportunity to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and competencies which you have in relation to the post.

You will be given more information about the company and the role on offer. Then you will be asked to take part in:

  • a group exercise,

  • complete a written exercise and

  • have an interview.

The main aim is to get to know all about you, your values and your approach to work.

Are there particular skills that make a good Support Worker?

There are a range of skills (referred to as competencies) which make a good Support Worker - these include behaviours such as problem solving, building relationships, teamwork, and it is these that are assessed during the Open Day.

Competencies set out the behaviours individuals need to display to help The SLC Group be an effective and successful organisation.  They define what all staff need to be capable of and are expected to demonstrate in their day-to-day work, and therefore are central to our recruitment process.  You can find the competencies specific to your role in your job description and person specification.

How do I prepare?

This is your chance to shine, so be ready to talk about your values and skills. We suggest you take some time beforehand to think about how to communicate your experience and aptitude for supporting vulnerable people (whether paid, personal or voluntary) based on the information and competencies within the job description and person specification.

Who will be there on the day?

This is dependent on the role you are applying for and how many people are attending on the day.

A Support Worker or Senior Support Worker open day will typically include; HR representatives and Locality and Regional Operations Managers from the area you are applying. A member of the Senior Management Team may also be involved in this day.
